The West Yellowstone Fire & Emergency Services Department responds to emergencies in West Yellowstone and outlying areas. The department provides fire protection and emergency medical care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The department is staffed by a Fire Chief and five Emergency Services Providers. In addition, the department is supported by an active volunteer organization. Volunteers are an integral part of the organization and spend many hours training and responding to emergencies.
The Town owns two ALS (Advanced Life Support) equipped ambulances. Two EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) respond to every ambulance call. The Town of West Yellowstone is 90 miles away from a hospital. Emergency transport service often makes the difference between life and death for patients who must endure the 90 mile ambulance ride to either Bozeman, MT or Rexburg, ID.
The Town is constantly working on improving its ISO (Insurance Safety Organization) rating. ISO ratings have a direct effect on property insurance. A lower ISO rating means lower insurance premiums for property owners in the jurisdiction. The Current ISO rating is a 7.
